Kula Sushi

? CONVEYER BELT SUSHI IS FINALLY HERE IN AUSTIN. Can you tell I’m excited? It’s exciting times in Austin with different concepts opening up in the city and I’m currently obsessed with Kula. Kula Sushi is a California sushi chain that serves sushi on a conveyor belt where you grab plates of sushi enclosed in little plastic containers as they float past your table.

While the sushi at Kula Sushi isn’t necessarily 5-star quality, I love this place because it’s such a fun dinner experience where you can sample multiple dishes and not be presented with a 3 digit check. #kokoapproved

Kula Sushi

NO HUMAN INTERACTION BY SERVERS

A hostess does greet you when you first come into the restaurant and then takes you to your table. A server then asks you if you’ve been here before. If not, she/he will teach you how to use the kiosk to order sushi and grab plates (called Mr. Fresh) off the conveyor belt. After that, your entire meal is ordered through the panel.

SUSHI GOES ROUND & ROUND THE CONVEYER BELT

Not as fast as my Instagram video so you do have a couple of seconds to decide whether or not you want to grab another plate of sushi. All sushi plates are around $2.25, reasonably priced I’d say so.

Kula Sushi

UNI, SALMON ROE, SCALLOPS, CONCH & MORE

Don’t expect just the basic sushi at Kula Sushi – there’s salmon roe, sea urchin uni (my favorite), conch, Hokkaido scallops, snow crab, seared flounder fin, and more.

Ramen

$5.80 RAMEN

Ramen and rice bowls are ordered off the order panel and sent down to your table by another conveyor belt. The ramen is surprisingly only $5.80 but is a smaller portion. In my opinion, perfect so you can eat more sushi.

Eel Rice

THE MORE YOU EAT, THE MORE YOU’RE REWARDED

For every 5 plates of sushi that you eat and deposit into the dirty plate slot located at each table (I need one of those for my house), you are rewarded with a funny Japanese cartoon that encourages you to eat more. For every 15 plates of sushi, you are rewarded with a ball with a prize (dispensed right above your table).

Mochi

DON’T FORGET ABOUT DESSERT

Pick desserts like mochi with peanut powder, cheesecake, mochi ice cream, green tea ice cream, sesame balls, Japanese style milk donuts, and banana tempura.
